Introducing the LINX Procedure

Did you know that acid reflux and GERD can be treated permanently and minimally invasively?
Designed to restore normal function to the lower esophageal sphincter, LINX effectively reduces reflux symptoms and reduces the need for long-term medication.

What is the LINX Procedure?

The LINX procedure is a minimally invasive surgical treatment designed to alleviate symptoms of acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a chronic condition where stomach acid frequently flows back into the oesophagus, leading to irritation and a range of uncomfortable symptoms such as heartburn and regurgitation.

How is the LINX Procedure Performed?

The LINX system involves the implantation of a small, flexible ring of magnetic beads around the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This innovative device enhances the function of the LES, which normally acts as a barrier to prevent stomach contents from refluxing into the oesophagus.

The procedure itself typically lasts about an hour and is performed laparoscopically, which means that the surgeon uses small incisions and specialised surgical instruments. This minimally invasive approach leads to reduced pain, quicker recovery times, and minimal scarring compared to traditional surgical methods, making it an appealing option for many patients.

Benefits of the LINX Procedure

The LINX procedure offers several benefits, which have made it a preferred choice for many patients suffering from GERD:

Long-lasting Relief

Reduction in Medication Use

Minimally Invasive

Improved Quality of Life

Reversibility

How the LINX Procedure Works?

The LINX device consists of a series of magnetic beads linked together by a flexible band. When implanted around the LES, the magnetic beads help keep the LES closed, providing a stronger barrier against the reflux of stomach acid into the oesophagus.

When a person swallows, the magnetic beads temporarily separate to allow food and liquid to pass into the stomach. This allows for normal swallowing function while still preventing reflux when not eating. This innovative mechanism addresses the root cause of GERD rather than simply managing symptoms, which can significantly improve patient outcomes.
